Coffee is one of the most consumed drinks on earth, second only to water, with more than 400 billion cups enjoyed every year. In Britain alone, people spent £1 billion on coffee last year and consume around 2.8 kg per person annually, averaging about two cups a day. Drinking habits also shift by age, from 0.5 cups daily for under-20s to around 2.2 cups for older adults. Globally, 57% of coffee is consumed at breakfast, while instant coffee still makes up 13% of all coffee drunk. In the United States, more than 150 million people drink a combined 400 million cups each day.
